How Often Should Your Floors Be Professionally Cleaned?
Have you ever really thought about how much foot traffic goes through your hallways? Think about all of the staff and clients that move through your office every single day. That’s a lot of debris being tracked in, not to mention the physical wear on your flooring. Although regular vacuuming and sweeping is important for upkeep, it is not enough for the wear and tear that your floors experience.
Over time, the outer layers of your floors degrade due to the foot traffic, furniture, carts, or really anything that gets dragged around the office. The process of preventing this degradation is ongoing. We call this the Maintenance Cycle.
- Routine Maintenance: This is the maintenance that occurs most often. If your office were a car, this would be filling up the gas. Most carpets and hard floors in offices will need to be cleaned weekly. You will need to consider cleaning your floors more frequently during special office functions and during winter, when the Calgary climate turns cold and slushy.
- Interim Maintenance: Think of this step as preventative maintenance. For your car this means getting your oil changed, for your office flooring this means steam cleaning, top-scrub and recoat. Depending on how busy your office is, thoroughly clean flooring 2-3 times per year. Do this before it gets too cold out and the salt and slush start getting in. Do it again once the snow melts and any other time that your foot traffic increases. This is to minimize the existing debris so it isn’t packed in further and shortens the lifespan of your flooring.
- Restorative Maintenance: This step is the overhaul. When deterioration occurs over time, a thorough stripping and refinishing will be needed in order to return your floors to their best condition.
