Three Simple Tips For The Savvy Spring Cleaner
It’s nearly the day we’ve all been waiting for; March 20th, the first day of spring. The sun gets up when we do and sticks around a little later, the snow is slowly melting away, and that bite in the air has warmed into a gentle breeze. Yep, Spring is well on its way. Inevitably every year, with Spring comes blooming flowers, a desperate need to stock up on windshield washer fluid, and the annual Spring clean. Whether you’re dreading or eagerly anticipating the instinctual need to spruce up your home once Winter finally dies, here are a few tips to keep you on track:
Stop what you’re doing, put down that broom! Clearing space will make it easier for you to actually see your space and what needs to be cleaned. Create three distinct piles: KEEP, DONATE, TRASH. Now you can hang up all of your summer clothes and pack away the winter ones. That gift you got from your work parties holiday exchange? The one that you’ll never use? You can get rid of that now. Generally, anything that you haven’t used in a year can go. Give yourself space for what you need, and room for anything new that you may want.
Don’t fall prey to the idea that you have to do it all yourself or that you have to get everything done in one day. Give yourself ample time and resources for the big clean, depending on your schedule and ability. Enlist your kids and spouse to help you out. Creating a game plan will keep you all motivated for the duration of the clean. And for those areas that are just too time consuming? That’s when you can call in the professional cleaners to do our job and give you a much-needed break.
Now this step is always easier said than done, but there are a few fail-safe ways to keep the momentum going. Don’t be afraid to turn up the music when you’re cleaning. There’s a reason that weight-lifters and marathon runners listen to music while working out. Create a playlist of songs that make you feel good and driven, then keep the tunes playing as you go. Another way to stay motivated is to set goals and rewards. For example, if you have the living room done by Monday, order pizza for dinner. Reward everyone’s hard work and skip the dishes. Pizza can be a great motivator!
